The Third XV, a young side, finished seventh in Section One of the Junior League, winning 7 and drawing 1 of their 19 games, scoring 242 points with 273 against. They made an exit from the Crawford Cup at the second stage.
The Fourth XV finished fourth in Section Two of the Junior league, with 16 victories from 22 games played, scoring 576 points while conceding 202. They won their appeal against Ballynahinch which put them into the semi-final of the Crawford Cup, where they unfortunately lost to Belfast Harlequins.
The Fifth XV, had a good season, and ended fourth in the Minor League Section South West, but were eliminated from the McCambley Cup in the Quarter-final. They won 15 and lost 8 of their 23 games played, scoring 554 and conceding 338 points.
The Sixths also performed very creditably to finish sixth in Minor League Section East 1, winning 14 of their 21 games, with 337 points for and 207 against. They also reached the semi-final of the McCambley Cup.
In a very successful season, the Under-20 XV won their league, with twelve
straight wins. Victories over Ballynahinch and Queens qualified them for
the All-Ireland play-offs, but here they fell 10-14 to a very big and
physical Lansdowne. The unavailability of Jamie Smith, Stephen Douglas,
Michael Entwistle and Pat Steenkamp for this game, contributed greatly
towards their defeat. They reached the semi-final of the Carrick Sevens
Tournament, and victories over Ballyclare, Dungannon and Rainey took them
to the final of the Roland Barr Trophy at Ravenhill, where, after a good
first half, they finally lost 14-24 to Instonians. There are quite a number
of very talented boys in this side, including the above-mentioned Smith,
Douglas and Entwistle, along with scrum-half Craig Woods, our ‘Young
Player of the Year’, and back-row forwards Willie McKay, David McKee
and Adam Cupples, which must augur well for our future. We wish them a
successful and safe upcoming Tour to South Africa. read
