Sport Relief 2012 - Offer for Ulster Branch Clubs
As a player, supporter and administrator you'll know the power of the game of rugby, its ability to turn lives around, make friendships and develop communities.
In 2012 rugby will be helping changing lives in Northern Ireland and the developing world and Sport Relief want your club to be part of it! On the 25th March 2012 there will be an incredible climax to the biggest ever celebrity sporting challenge. 'First Nation Home' for Sport Relief culminates in a 6 mile road race involving four teams or former rugby internationals and celebrities representing: England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Simultaneous races will take place in each capital city, Belfast, London, Edinburgh and Cardiff, as 1,000 people in each city pull on their national colours and run as fast as they can for their country!
Every participant will be chip timed and their efforts will ultimately determine if their country wins the race. There are five spaces in Team Ireland to run in the Belfast race available for your club members.
Every participant in the race will be kitted out for free in exclusive running gear of shirt and shorts. All we ask is your club representatives (in true Barbarian fashion) wear their club socks in the race and they try and raise as much money as they can for the Sport Relief charity. Entry to this event is normally £60 but this has been waived for rugby clubs in Ulster.
Team Ireland is captained by Craig Doyle and includes some of the greats of Irish and Ulster rugby - Shane Byrne, Morris Field, David Humphreys, Paddy Johns, Jonny Bell, and Denis McBride as well as celebrities like Amanda Byram, Pete Snodden, Stephen Watson, and Diarmuid Gavin.
If you think you need someone to follow, Commonwealth and Olympic athletes Ed McGinley, Sonia O'Sullivan and Joe Barr will set a pretty good pace!
